As we recall John’s words anticipating Christ and calling for repentance, I’m reminded of the promise we make whenever we baptize someone in the UMC:
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior,
put your whole trust in his grace,
and promise to serve him as your Lord,
in union with the Church which Christ has opened
to people of all ages, nations, and races?
The only way to move ahead in faith is by fully trusting in Jesus, and not in ourselves, and continually seeking to serve Christ and Christ alone.
